Caring for our Watersheds

"What can YOU do to improve your watershed?"

Enter this contest to help your community, land, water and wallet!

Students in grades 7-12, YOU are invited to enter this contest by telling us what you could do to improve your watershed.  If chosen as one of the top ten entries by our community judges, YOU could WIN up to $1000 for yourself and your school/club!

Here are the contest's 6 simple steps.

1. LEARN ABOUT YOUR WATERSHED. What's Bugging You? What needs to Change?

A Watershed Ambassador can come to your class or club for a presentation on your local watershed and the Caring for our Watersheds (CFW) contest (optional). If you want to enter on your own rather then as part of a class or club, that is okay too!  We can help you individually.  Contact Nathalie at nathalie@battleriverwatershed.ca for resources to learn about your watershed.

2. TELL US WHAT YOU COULD DO TO IMPROVE YOUR WATERSHED.

Prepare your 1000 word proposal, answering the question "What can I do to improve my watershed?" working individually or in a team of up to 4 people.  You can use the Student Workbook to guide you through the proposal writting, or use the Student Guide to a Successful Proposal.

3. SEND US YOUR PROPOSAL (online)

Submit your proposal by April 11th, 2018.  All students who enter receive a prize! Submit your proposal at: caringforourwatersheds.com/contests

4. JUDGING TIME

Community judges will mark all proposals (using the Content Judging Guide) and will provide feedback.  The 10 proposals with the highest marks will be invited to compete in the Final Competition and Award Ceremony!

5. FINALISTS PRESENT THEIR IDEAS

Students with the top 10 proposals will prepare a 5 minute verbal presentation on their idea to present at the Final Competition and Award Ceremony on Saturday May 13, 2017 at the Reynolds-Alberta Museum in Wetaskiwin.  Every student at the Finals wins a cash reward. Cheques to students and schools or registered clubs will be sent out immediately.

6. MAKE YOUR IDEA REALITY (optional)

Everyone who entered the contest is eligible for up to $1,000 of matching funding to implement their idea!  Mentorship is available.
