Friends of Little Beaver Lake

Type of group: Registered society

  • To care for and look after our lake and surrounding area, including the headwaters of Meeting Creek
  • To learn more about Little Beaver Lake and the living things that make their home in the water and on the shores
  • To pass on what we learn to our community, especially the younger folks and coming generations.

What We Do

The following programming has been completed:

  • building and installing boxes for tree-nesting waterfowl
  • preparing and erecting a large interpretive sign in the Ferintosh camp site, a photo display of a variety of wildlife and their special habitats as  provided by our lake
  • arranging and completing a riparian study of our shores and a sampling and analysis of the water
  • preparing and presenting a Gallery of images of our lake for the Ferintosh Centennial July, 2011. Our gallery included interpretive displays, a DVD, and a selection of art work
  • purchase of a paddlers dock for the Village, to encourage canoeists and kayakers to explore and enjoy our lake

The following work is in progress:

  • forestry care and preservation of Village shoreline property, including a nature trail
  • looking into ways we may be able to encourage and assist in reclamation of gravel  pit sites
  • discovering ways to expand our membership, especially among younger people in the community

Regular meetings are held on the last Thursday of the month at the Ferintosh Hi-U Centre. 7:30 p.m.   Membership is $20 per year which covers up to two members of a family.
