On a beautiful day in October students from St. Augustine school came to the Battle River to help plant trees. The event was made possible by Courtney and Rhyliegh, grade 8 students at St. Augustine who were finalists in the 2011 Caring for our Watershed contest.
At the final competition, the girls showed a video of the Battle River and the lack of trees along the shore line. Their idea was plant trees to help prevent erosion. Over the summer with help from Courtney’s father, the girls received sponsorship from Trees Canada and Home Hardware for 30 trees to plant!
About 20 students (all girls!) came out to help plant the trees. For pictures please visit our Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/BattleRiverWatershedAlliance.
The Caring for our Watersheds Program is proud to support our students in implementing their projects. Funding is available for all students who are interested in implementation.
