The average person needs 30 to 50 litres of fresh water a day for drinking, cooking, washing and sanitation. However, the average Canadian uses more than 300 litres of water a day! Compare this to the average African, who makes do with just 10 litres a day.

Capture the Spirit of the Watershed

The Battle River Watershed Alliance is partnering with the Camrose Arts Society to "Capture the Spirit of the Watershed" through two plein air painting workshops. The workshops will take place on June 12 and September 18, from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm on each day. The public is free to sign up for one or both workshops. See descriptions below.
SPIRIT OF THE VALLEY: June 12
Walk in Stony Creek valley in Camrose directly south from the Stony Creek Centre and discover the wonders of painting the valley.
SPIRIT OF THE WETLAND: September 12
Join colleagues in a workshop to a rural wetland east of Camrose. After a drive to Killam we will head north to Don Ruzicka's farm and set up the plein air experience at his cabin that overlooks a beautiful prairie wetland. Lunch provided!

Voices of the Battle River Watershed: Photography Exhibition

Interested in photography? Interested in exploring a diversity of perspectives on water and watershed issues? Come check out our photography gallery - hosted by the Battle River Watershed Alliance and two Augustana students.
In collaboration with two students from the Augustana Faculty of the U of A, the BRWA has initiated a pilot project called "PhotoVoice". A main goal of this project is to capture, through photography, people's perceptions of, and connections to, the Battle River watershed. Every picture tells a story, and this exhibition is a means of sharing a few of the stories that have been told thus far.

Caring For Our Watersheds Competition
Date: May 12 2010
Location: Central Alberta
This proposal writing competition asks students the question, "What can you do to improve your watershed?" Students in both junior and senior high are eligible for cash prizes when they enter. Every student that enters is recognized for their contribution. Students are encouraged to let their imaginations guide them to preparing creative, innovative, and inspiring project proposals.
The contest deadline is May 12, 2010, and the Awards and Volunteer Appreciation Banquet is on June 5, 2010, at the Augustana Campus of the University of Alberta.
